My Story

People often ask me how I became so passionate about birds, and it all started with a little drama involving my window and a very dizzy chickadee.

While gardening outside, a sharp thud against the window startled me. I rushed to find my cat Cleo already investigating the scene, and discovered a stunned chickadee lying motionless on the deck. Concerned, I gently scooped it up and placed him in a small box lined with a soft blanket.

For the next hour, I anxiously watched as the chickadee slowly regained its strength. When he finally fluttered his wings and took off, I felt a profound sense of relief and satisfaction.

Determined to prevent similar accidents in the future, I covered my windows with bird collision stickers. However, the impact of that chickadee’s brief visit went far beyond some safety measures.

Soon after, I got really interested in birds and started feeding them in my backyard. I quickly realized that the store-bought seed was like junk food for birds and I wanted to provide a better dining experience that was packed with high-energy foods rich in protein and fat. I wanted to make something better—something that birds would actually need and benefit from.

As I created and refined my blends and created handmade bird seed gifts, I found myself drawn into a vibrant community of bird enthusiasts. We shared tips, stories, and lots of laughter. The positive feedback and happiness from the community and customers only fueled my passion further.

Watching that chickadee fly into the sky was more than a feel good moment, it marked the beginning of a lifelong passion. What started as a small project turned into Birdzy, a business that spreads happiness with these special, handmade creations.
